20 Reasons Why Filipino Parents are a Pain!

It would be fallacy to claim that ALL Filipino parents are a pain because I don’t know all Filipino parents in this country after all so I’m just going to relate how one Filipino parents I knew could be a huge pain in the ass.

1. Husband believed in “MY WAY or you get out of the House” and he always scares children with this threat. He must be feeling powerful every time he issue this threat.

2. Parents sent children to school so children must give them money as soon as they get a job as payment. But since children do NOT give a single cent, they are considered an ungrateful arrogant monster and will definitely burn in HELL.  MOTHER F*CKER FATHER!

3. Children were taught to befriend only certain people if they could get something in return from that relationship.

4. Polite and civil when children bring home friends but full of criticisms as soon as they leave the house.

5. Loves to one-up with other parents / people while pushing children at the same time to meet their so called screwed upright standards.

6. They believe in corporal punishment. Children got a taste of slappings, belt, hangers and sticks.

7. Have sex only after MARRIAGE… yeah right! To think that their eldest child was born 6 months after they were married.

8. They believe that they are NEVER WRONG and therefore EVERYTHING is OTHER’s FAULT!

9. Scares children with “GABA” (a negative retribution) if they don’t do it their way.

10. Tell children that they don’t have any RESPECT for their parents if children don’t do things their way also.

11. They believed that Foreigners are walking atm machine.

12. They believed that Foreigners aren’t nice if they don’t support them and therefore should be divorced IMMEDIATELY.

13. It is important to keep an image of being a complete and loving family even if wife gets beaten up.

14. Whatever happened with the Family, should stay with the Family.

15. Children can never do anything right and they believe that they are very GOOD parents.

16. They believe that boats, planes, buses, everything will WAIT FOR THEM.

17. They believe that children are their property and have ZERO RIGHTS.

18. Obsessed with Mano Po or Kissing their hands and will slap you if you missed doing this.

19. They are like a broken recorder, always repeating their “righteous” advice.

20. They love to dictate in how you should live your life because they believe that you simply do not have the brains to live it well.

Children can’t choose their parents unfortunately but got to make do with what you have I suppose!

Ugly Bar Girls

A co-worker went bar hopping with his German stepfather. In one bar, co-worker finds all the girls very ugly and being a concerned citizen, decided to talked with the manager.

Co-worker: Sir, how is our business? I just wonder if you ever have a problem getting customers because your girls here are just freaking ugly…”

Manager: We are running a very profitable business here because our main target of customers are FOREIGNERS and they are attracted with ugly girls….. nyahahaha

Laguna Cafe in SM NorthWing Cebu

After our bentusa massage at Langkawi Discovery Spa, we took a jeepney from ParkMall to SM City Cebu for our lunch at Laguna Café. It’s part of our post valentine itinerary in celebration of womanhood, singlehood and lifehood. Oh yeah!

I’ve always thought that Laguna Café is ridiculously expensive but I was wrong. For 8 people, our total bill was only 3540 and since this is a KKB event (kanya-kanyang bayad or Dutch style), my wallet only bled 442.50 pesos. One foreigner guy informed me that he would love to join us 8 women but I frankly told him that unless he is ready to pay the entire bill, this is NEVER a good idea because unfortunately, a lot of Filipinos will always expect to have a white guy pay for EVERYTHING.

So about our lunch, my favorite food was paella and the seafood platter. Paella is one of my sister’s favorite dishes and she kept telling me about this that I became curious. I wanted to be able to relate to her so I suggested that we order paella. I don’t know if paella in Laguna Café is different from what my sister had in Belgium or Spain but the paella that I’ve tried sure was lovely.

Below is our order and the bill receipt…

Chika-An Restaurant for Filipino Cuisines

In Philippines, it’s the birthday celebrants who usually treat people to a free lunch/ dinner and so last Monday, Racs invited us to a lunch at Chika-an in SM City Cebu. But since Filipinos tend to get offended if they aren’t included in any free food event, Racs requested that nobody should mention that it’s her birthday treat in Facebook. Instead, we are supposedly together to celebrate Chinese New Year KKB (Kanya-kanyang Bayad) / Dutch Style, where people pay their own meal.

Chika-An is one of the many restaurants in Cebu that specializes in Filipino cuisines and it’s one of our favorites too because prices are very reasonable, foods are all delicious and the service is over the top.

Aside from unlimited rice that cost 35 pesos each (0.6 Euro) and drinks, here’s the rest of our order:

Calamares at 155 pesos (2.8 Euro)

IMG_0117
Pochero with meat at 320 pesos (5.8 Euro)

IMG_0133
Sizzling Squid Ala Pobre at 179 pesos (3.3 Euro)

IMG_0134
Mongo Soup at 145 pesos (2.6 Euro)

IMG_0136
Baka Caldereta at 198 pesos (3.6 Euro)

IMG_0137
Camaron Rebosado at 165 pesos (3 Euro)

IMG_0145
Crispy Pata Large at 345 pesos (6.3 Euro)

For 8 people, the total bill was only 2219 pesos or 40 Euro which is a lot cheaper than Gerry’s Grill.

Jollibee’s Hash Brown Burger

I have no problem avoiding fast food place like Jollibee and McDonald but things got a bit difficult with the advent of Jollibee’s Hash Brown Burger. I’m not sure if its because I’ve learned to love potatoes but I really love the combination of BAKED hash brown potatoes as bun with beef patty, cheese and ketchup in the middle.

So one fine pay day, people decided to eat hash brown for snacks and I was in charged of making the order. Calling Jollibee delivery Cebu hotline at 238-7000 was easy enough and the operator was very nice except that I really don’t like it when people can’t deliver their promises. Operator informed me that our order will arrive in 30 minutes and I also specifically requested to include extra tomato ketchup. But we waited for almost an hour before our order arrived and guess what? ZERO KETCHUP. I called the hotline again just so they could get direct feedback of what customers think of their services and they apologized of course. I hope to see some improvements next time.

Ala carte hash brown in Jollibee store cost only 64 pesos but there’s an additional 10% for delivery charge so each of us pay 70.4 pesos (1.2 Euro). Ketchup cost 0.50 Euro in Europe and Filipinos are a bit spoiled I think because they provide this for FREE in Philippines.
